Cycling can be defined as the act of riding a cycle, be it a bicycle, a unicycle, a tricycle, or what have you. Cycling can be done for recreational purposes, for exercise and fitness purposes, and even as a competitive sport.

Cycling has been around for a long time. In fact, it has been around longer than one might think. It is said that the first rough draft and layout of a bicycle was created in the 1400s by one famous inventor, artist, and Renaissance man by the name of Leonardo DaVinci.

Wherever cycling originated from, it is safe to say that cycling is universal. It is a sport that can be enjoyed by most everyone young and old alike. If you don not know what a bicycle is, chances are you have probably been hiding under a rock for all of your life.

When many think of bicycles and brands of bicycles, one name may come into mind frequently. Schwinn is a classic name in bicycles and cycling, and they have been around for more than a century.

I have not been around for even half as long as that, but I have heard many stories from my parents of good times when they were young and when they would spend time after school and during summer riding around the neighborhood with their friends on their bicycles. If you had a Schwinn bicycle and was seen riding around on it, this made you cool and the absolute envy of all your childhood friends. One of the ultimate cruiser bikes to have ever been made is the Schwinn Stin-gray.

Some Schwinn Bicycle History

Schwinn is an American bicycle company that was founded and established in 1895 by a man name Ignaz Schwinn. Just in case you are wondering, Schwinn is a German name, and Mr. Ignaz Schwinn was born in Germany.

Schwinn bicycles were popular in the early and mid 1900s, and have since been dubbed an American classic in bicycle brands. Today, Schwinn still produces some of the classics that they are known for such as the Sting-ray and Black Phantom. Schwinn also produces stationary bicycles such as the Schwinn Airdyne and road bikes such as the Schwinn Paramount.

Schwinn Oldies but Goodies

Up until this day, Schwinn bicycles are still produced. However, the classic Schwinn bikes made in earlier times have become a highly prized collectors item by Schwinn collectors and enthusiasts.

Jay owns Bicycle Stockpile, a website that aims to provide listings for the best deals on Schwinn bicycles [http://bicyclestockpile.com], accessories, and bike parts. There are pages on this website dedicated to specific models of Schwinn bicycles such as the Schwinn Stingray [http://bicyclestockpile.com/schwinn-store/schwinn-stingray]. Check out Bicycle Stockpile to find more info on Schwinn.

Tricycles or trikes are great toys for kids who are not yet able to balance themselves on the regular bikes. Instead of having only one rear wheel, the trike has two to make sure that the vehicle will remain standing even when it is not in motion.

The tricycles that are most useful as stepping stones for teaching children how to ride a bike as they grow older are the smallest ones. It is advisable to let the child get used to a tricycle even before he is able to walk. The trike teaches the kid how to pedal and to steer, which are two important skills when using a regular bicycle. It is the steering skill that is usually learned first and some children will even master this skill before they learn to walk.

Once the child has learned how to steer the trike, he can begin to learn how to pedal. It is advisable for the child to learn this either inside the house, in the driveway or in a level courtyard. When the child is two and a half years old, trikes are no longer recommended if they have reached a speed potential that is too fast for a tricycle to be safe because it does not have brakes.

The metal tricycles become dangerous when the riding surface is inclined because gravity can make them run faster than the child would be able to handle. The usual upright trikes can become very dangerous because of their high centers of gravity and the absence of brakes. Without brakes, the child would not be able to stop them and they flip over if the child turns at that speed.

The semi-recumbent tricycles that are made of plastic and have lower centers of gravity are safer for kids. They spin out instead of tipping over during a turn and they often have a crude brake.

Thor is an avid Tricycle fan. He has created a few sites dedicated to tricycles which includes the Best Kids Tricycles a site dedicated to helping you find the best trike. The other site is the Schwinn Roadster Trike site a safe and fun trike for kids growing up.

Kids and wheeled riding toys go together like ice cream and summer days. But to make the recipe complete and to make a safe combination you need to add a helmet to the wheeled toy. No matter what the age of the child, when they get on a bicycle, tricycle or other potentially tippy outdoor riding toy their heads must be protected.

Head injuries can be devastating to children. A badly scraped knee or a broken arm, even if painful, will usually heal without long-term consequences. Not so a head injury, which can lead to devastating life-long problems or even death.

Start your child out on the first day with a helmet and it will be accepted as part of the riding experience. Wait until your child is older and you may meet with more resistance to wearing one.

For younger children choose headgear that is specifically designed for bicycle riding. By the time your child is old enough to be skateboarding or roller blading, he or she will need a larger helmet anyway, and you can select a new one that will be useful for all these sports.

Be sure that any bike helmet you choose has a label stating that it meets the standards of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Helmets come in both soft and hard shell configurations. As long as the item you select meets CPSC standards, either will offer good protection. Hard shell helmets are sturdier on the outside but can be heavier and hot in the summer. Although they may cost a bit more, look for several ventilation holes because this will help to reduce heat buildup. Many helmets are adjustable, so they can be expanded as the child grows, which does help with cost.

Look for a brightly colored helmet so that both you and motorists will be better able to see your child. Even though your child may not be allowed in the street, you can never count on a child to be predictable or to resist temptation. If other children are playing and riding in the street, your child may break the rules. You want him or her to be as visible as possible.

Letting your child pick out the helmet will usually make him more willing to wear it regularly. When they are younger children usually regard their helmets as “cool.” You will likely meet more resistance to wearing one from an older child, especially if you haven’t enforced helmet rules from day one.

Bicycle helmets are not especially expensive, especially if you compare the cost of a helmet to the cost of an emergency room visit. You can find them in bike shops, toy stores and discount stores from about $30 for a quality helmet. Be sure that you fit the helmet to your child before purchasing. Be wary of purchasing or borrowing used headgear. You won’t know the history, and if these items have been in an accident they may have invisible damage.

If your child does take a fall that impacts the head be sure to thoroughly examine his head gear before you send him back out. A hard impact may damage the foam, making it less protective. Look for skid marks or cracks on the outer shell. If you see signs of impact damage, be sure to get a replacement as soon as possible.

Warning: Helmets can become caught on playground equipment. Be sure that your children remove their headgear before they run to play if they have ridden their bikes to the park.

Before you start shopping for that first big wheel bike for your child be sure to read up on what to look for in a first big wheel tricycle at http://www.bigwheeltricycle.net

Over the years, Schwinn has been one of the most popular bicycle options out there. In fact, they first opened their doors back in 1895 when we didn’t even have paved roads across the country. However, they continue to produce high quality bicycles for all ages. Whether it’s mountain bikes, racing, or just for fun, they know how to give the consumers exactly what they need. One of the best choices around today is the Schwinn Meridian. It offers everything from comfortability, sleek designs, and enjoyment for hours on end. You can also find other options like the Sting-Ray, the Rocket, and even the Fastback road bike.

In fact, if you really want to get down to it the Schwinn Meridian is the best adult tricycle in circulation. It offers 3 wheels and a complete step-through design frame. They are also made from aluminum, which allows an easier way to maneuver around. Individuals who have lower back, knee, or even hip issues will enjoy the feel of riding behind a Schwinn Meridian. It allows you to ride for hours and enjoy the smooth feel on the pavement. A lot of it has to do with the rims and stainless steel spokes that bring forth additional stability to each tire. In the end they will have a longer life. There is also a folding basket on the back you can use for picnics or put a few waters or other beverages in there for the ride. The only issue with the bike is that it’s somewhat bulky, which means storing it could be a little difficult.

When it comes to reviews there are plenty of them available for the Schwinn Meridian Bike. The majority of them are extremely positive and talk heavily about the personal mobility. One woman even talked about her husband getting stronger as a result. While this seems like common sense since you’re exercising, the amazement behind her story is that her husband is 76 years old. He also felt more confident and comfortable, even though has balance issues. On the negative side of things most of the reviews talk about issues with the product being damaged when delivered to the home. What it comes down to is there is a problem with the shipping company and not the actual product.

Another thing to remember is that it is not assembled when you receive it. If you don’t want to spend the time doing it or just feel uncomfortable, the bike shops have no problem lending a helping hand. We also recommend that you make sure the height and size is perfect for you. Again, this may sound like common sense but many people forget. This is just a helpful reminder. Last but not least the Schwinn Meridian Bike only has one speed. If you’re looking to travel up hills during your ride we would recommend choosing another option. The Schwinn Meridian was developed for flat surfaces, but we’re sure you can find plenty in your area.

Toddler riding toys are one of the best toys for stimulating your child. Babies grow and development faster than we can even imagine and before we know it they’re toddlers. That sweet little bundle that you brought home from the hospital is now toddling around right before our eyes. Ride on toys are great tools that help developmental skills grow just as quickly as the kids themselves are growing.

Toddlers need to get a lot of stimulation and one way to do that is to introduce toddler riding toys. This is a very good method of encouraging rapid development to occur. It is very safe to introduce this type of toy and the earlier that you do it the better. The right toy will encourage your child to use their motor skills, their imagination, and to be creative on their own. These are a few of the ways that they help:

Encourage Gross Motor Skills

An age appropriate toddler riding toy will encourage motor skills that involve all of your child’s muscle groups. If your child is pushing, pulling, or pedaling their toy then they are engaging their large muscle groups which in turn is developing their gross motor skills.

Develop Fine Motor Skills

Hand to eye coordination (which is a fine motor skill) will be improved whenever your child uses the interactive features of their toddler riding toy. This could include pressing buttons or turning on ignition keys.

Independent Play

Independent play begins even at this young of an age. Your kids will be learning how to get around the house on their own, without your assistance. They’ll be navigating around furniture and checking out different rooms. This encourages creativity and builds confidence levels. They’ll be gaining a new level of independence.

Increased Creativity

Little do you know what is going on inside your child’s mind as they are checking out the house or the yard on their new toy. Even though they can’t talk to you yet you can be sure that their little imaginations are going full blast. They’re taking in everything that they see and hear along the way, causing their creativity levels to increase.

Toddler riding toys are very important toys when it comes to the development of your children. Choosing an age appropriate ride will ensure that this toy lasts for years to come. The fun that your kids will have will provide long lasting memories.

Toddler riding toys can include many different styles and varieties. Visit Tina’s favorite ride on toys website for reviews of some of this years favorites including the Peg Perego Ride On Train and the Schwinn Roadster Tricycle at http://www.toddlerrideontoys.net.

Tricycle is a bicycle with extra wheel and commonly associated with kids. When people talk about tricycles, they think of children’s toys. In fact, bicycle manufacturer do come out with adult tricycle as well. Although these trikes may not that commonly used by everybody, they do give us extra benefit if compared to a normal bicycle. Here are a few reasons why I think a tricycle is better than the two-wheeled.

Safety -A tricycle gives you stability. Not everyone is able to balance themselves with two-wheeled bicycle, but if you are riding a trike, you will not have this problem. This has makes the tricycles a very safe and secure vehicle if compare to two-wheeled bike.

Cargo function – Most of the tricycle built with big basket at the back. You can load it with your groceries, books, jackets and other stuff. This gives you great convenience to biking around and carrying your stuffs along.

Pet friendly – The rear basket can also become your pet’s VIP seat. For pet lovers, it is always their intention to travel around with their pets. The rear basket of a tricycle is always spacious enough to make your pets comfortable. Riding a tricycle to get fit together with your dog is really a fun experience.

These reasons have make a tricycle stand out from the two-wheeled. For choosing a riding vehicle, I would say safety is always the first consideration to me. So a tricycle is my best choice. If you have never rode a tricycle before, why don’t give yourself a chance to have a new experience? I’m sure you will going to love my suggestion once you tried it.

When toddlers begin, toddling it is not very long before they enjoy riding on their toys. Watch any young child with their push cars and dump trucks and you will see them trying to ride it all around the toy room. Young children love riding toys! Here are the top 5 toddler ride on toys:

Wooden Rockers

Many children’s first ride on toy is a wooden rocker or rocking horse. They will not get very far in reality on this type of toddler ride on toy but on the other hand, they will think they are traveling miles! Hours of fun can be had on a simple wooden rocker toddler ride on toy. Push Ride on Toys From wooden rockers many children graduate to push ride on toys. These cool cars can be big or small and include a top and actual working door. Your toddler sits in the driver’s seat but must push themselves along with their feet. Some of these ride on toys can be quite large and better suited to the back yard while others are small enough to be ridden around the toy room quite comfortably.

Pedal Cars

As your toddler grows or becomes bored with pushing themselves around you may want to consider pedal type ride on toys. These toys are just what they sound like a ride on that contains pedals for faster mobilization. Big wheels, radio flyer cars and even a John Deere Tractor round out the options for pedal cars. One big plus with many of this ride on toys is the adjustable seat, finally a toy that will grow with your child.

Small Tricycles

Somewhere between push cars and power comes the small tricycle, every child should have at least one of these in their lifetime! The unforgettable little red tricycle will always be a toddler favorite, however today you can get larger models such as the Fisherprice Rock, Roll and Ride. This is a sturdy tricycle with tall seat for optimum support.

Powered Ride on Cars and Trucks

Watch your little ones eyes light up this year when they get their very own Hummer! Today you can find many toddler ride on toys powered by 3 volt or 6 volt batteries, these toys are built to resemble the real thing and give your child the ride of their life! Tooling around the house or yard, these motorized vehicles are awesome. You can even find small four wheeler type vehicles that are battery powered for hours of toddler enjoyment. Don’t worry too much about skyrocketing insurance when you little one begins driving, these toys go a modest 2 mph. The main thing to watch with these toddler ride on toys is the age recommendation tipping point. A few motorized ride on toys have narrow wheelbases, which makes them prone to tipping. Check them out before you buy.

If you were born after the 80′s you may have no idea what the original big wheel tricycle is all about. However if you were born in the 60′s or 70′s, you may not need an introduction to the Big Wheel. Before 1969, there was only one kind of tricycle, the one with 3 wheels and all of them were more or less the same size. However, in 1969, a person by the name of Louis Marx introduced a new kind of tricycle.

A contrastingly different feature of the Louis Marx Tricycle was that it had a much larger front wheel compared to the other two. The other difference was that the two rear wheels were much smaller than those of a regular tricycle, so the seat was very much lower than a regular trike.

What this meant was that:

It had a really cool look – Big Front Wheel and small rear wheels with a low seat

It had a really low ride – kids loved this because they felt an exaggerated speed. Parents and a few consumer groups loved it because the bike was very safe. You couldn’t trip it over, if you tried to!

All in all, the The Big Wheels were an absolute blast in the 1970′s.

So what’s the ‘ORIGINAL’ all about?

Today, there are many different models of Big Wheeled Tricycles. There are many models produced by kids’ bicycle manufacturers such as Razor and Huffy. All these are ‘Big Wheels’, however, that original model produced by Marx, is still known as the Original Big Wheel Tricycle. Although the original company stopped manufacturing it, a model similar to the original tricycle is being re-manufactured today and is available for purchase through various toy distributors.

Eurotrike has been a trusted manufacturer of kids’ toys for many years. They have continued to produce remarkable toys with better design, make and durability. The Eurotrike Playsafe is one of their top sellers, an adventure toy designed to introduce young children to the joys and wonders of being mobile. With the release of the newest version of Playsafe, there’s plenty for both kids and their parents to be happy about.

The Eurotrike Playsafe is a tricycle — one wheel in front and two wheels at the back. The design is meant to ensure stability and balance, something that many young children do not readily achieve with the basic bicycle.

Features you can expect from Eurotrike Playsafe

- Steering lock system to ensure a steady direction.

- Adjustable seat positions to accommodate a growing child or several users of different ages and sizes.

- Built-in system to limit steering so the child does not over-steer to the left or right (oversteering usually causes the child to slip out of balance).

- Safety grips that ensure no-slip hold and hours of comfort

- Single handbrake

- Footrest to provide the child support when the parent is pushing the tricycle

- Bell to alert parents or guardians that the tricycle is being used

- A high back seat to ensure sufficient back support and prevent the child from falling backward

- A 3-point harness to keep the child in place; locks in and out easily and may be adjusted for a snug fit.

- Has wide, quiet tires for better stability when used.

- Has a self-rightening tipper to prevent unnecessary falls.

- A safety flag to increase the visibility of the child during use

- Comes with a pushbar that parents or guardians can use to steer the tricycle

- Playsafe weighs about 7 kgs. — solid enough to provide a sturdy ride for a small child and light enough for parents to transport.

Although the tires are tough enough, Playsafe is best used on concrete or asphalt.

How old should a child be to use Eurotrike Playsafe?

Playsafe is suitable for children as young as 12 months to as old as 4 years. It also has a weight limit of 25 kgs. Parent supervision is highly recommended, particularly when the user is very young.

The Eurotrike Playsafe has different designs and color schemes for boys and girls, so children have better personal choices.

Care for the Eurotrike Playsafe

For care and maintenance, simply wipe the Playsafe clean with a soft, damp cloth. If dirty or greasy, use a soapy solution and wipe off with clean water. Always dry the components thoroughly.

If there’s one toy of childhood that many kids remember with fondness, it’s probably the bicycle. Help your kids discover adventure with the Eurotrike Playsafe.

Ride on toys and vehicles for kids have been popular for over a century. Although they have been around for many generations of kids, they became very popular in the first half of the nineteenth century. Classic riding toys include the pedal car and the bicycle. For children too young for a bicycle, wagons and tricycles provided plenty of entertainment. Besides being pure fun, ride on toys provide a way for children to get around the neighborhood and feel grown-up. The top five kids’ ride on vehicles and toys are the bicycle and tricycle, the wagon, the pedal car, the go kart, and the scooter.

The bicycle, and its cousin the tricycle for younger children, will always remain a popular choice. Chances are good that you remember the bicycle you owned as a child. Today, bicycles are available in nearly every style and color imaginable, from classic designs in bright primary colors to bicycles featuring popular kids’ characters. Bicycles first gained popularity towards the end of the nineteenth century, and have not decreased in popularity since then.

Unlike the other toys on this list, a child cannot climb onto a pull-along wagon and steer it while propelling themselves. Still, parents can pull their children around in this classic wheeled toy. The most well-known wagons are Radio Flyer, which became known for its red metal wagons in the 1930s.

Pedal cars were designed almost as early as the first automobiles, although they really became popular first in the 1930s, and later in the 1950s and 1960s when postwar prosperity meant that middle-class workers could afford to buy them for their own kids. Many of these 1950′s and 1960′s ride on toys were designed using the same elements found on the latest automobiles, like streamlined styling or even pedal cars designed to look just like miniature versions of the real thing.

Go karts for children range from the simple, which may be assembled in a parent’s garage, to elaborate contraptions purchased ready-made or assembled from a kit. Go kart racing is even a popular sport for kids. Because these karts are powered rather than pedaled, they can go much faster than any of the other toys on this list. Karts vary widely in speed, with top speeds anywhere from 15 to 100 miles per hour. They were first manufactured in the late 1950s, and caught on very quickly. At first, the engines were adapted from motorcycles, although today there are specialized go kart engines.

The scooter was very popular around the same time as pedal cars and classic “banana seat” bicycles, but in the past decade or so it has been reinvented for a new generation of children, with the lightweight and foldable “Razor” scooter. Scooters have even found an audience with a slightly older crowd who take them to skate parks.

The classic versions of all of these riding toys popular since at least the middle of the twentieth century were made of very sturdy materials, such as steel. Though these vintage toys often didn’t include all of the modern safety features, these toys typically lasted through several generations, unlike many of today’s plastic toys.

Ride-on toys and vehicles make a great gift for today’s children. Their classic style and the creativity, fresh air, and exercise they allow will ensure that these toys remain popular for generations to come. Although most of the classic versions are pushed with the child’s feet, today many versions are motorized, including many miniature cars that are battery powered and large enough for a pre-schooler to drive.

Why not check out Classic Pedal Cars for your next ride on toy for your child.
